I’ve spent my entire teaching career in elementary school, the foundation of education. For over a decade I’ve spent learning instructional practices that put me in the position of a facilitator and students in charge of their mathematical understanding. Years in the classroom and years as an elementary math coach has really opened my eyes to a world of understanding I never knew in grade school.
Now, I am taking the leap into a world that’s unknown. A world in which I hear is plagued with stand and deliver methods of teaching. A world where my ways of instruction may be shunned or embraced. It’s up to me to ensure I’m doing what’s best for students and being the example which shows the importance of the elementary way of teaching.
